Experience the Wonders of Donsol, Sorsogon
Ecotourism in Donsol
With WWF and other government organizations to push through organized tours. In 2013-2014, when the number of sightings decreased to none, the concerned parties prompted the concept of ecotourism.
They have restricted the number of boats that go out in Donsol waters, organized groups of fishermen to manage ecotourism groups, and trained them in handling whale shark interactions and visitors.
Whale Shark Interactions
Swim with whale sharks, the largest fish in the ocean.
The season typically runs from November to June, with peak sightings from February to May. This experience as per tourists and locals alike has given them the perspective of how big the ocean is and the world around us. These big animals are a sight to be seen, that most, wait for hours to see them.
Firefly Watching
Night-time river cruises offer a magical experience of watching fireflies illuminate the mangroves along the Donsol River.
This activity supports the conservation of mangrove forests and provides income for local communities. Tour guides trained by local government departments, educate and provide background to tourists on the importance of the mangroves.

The project aims to inform people about Donsol through the use of this platform. As a municipality, they strive to protect the natural resources and preserve the wildlife ecosystems that seasonally visit their waters to feed. They also aim to show how ecotourism is a gateway opportunity for teaching responsible tourism in our country.
